Over the years, we have groomed hundreds of marathoners from all walks of life, from beginners to advanced runners. Currently, we train over 800 enthusiastic runners, of all age groups between 18 and 75 years old, for fitness and for competition. Apart from individual runners, we also cater to a range of corporate clients for their employee engagement programs.

The journey with Striders started on a recommendation by the veteran-most runner on Indian Marathon circuit Dr Ramani in February 2013. Since then, Striders training has now become a part of my DNA. One feels incomplete without the training sessions. It has helped me graduate from a rookie half marathoner to a matured ultramarathon runner. The systematic process of strengthening of different muscles of the body, core work-outs and then build-up of mileage towards the respective Big Day is what I like the most of Striders training. Apart from that, the camaraderie it builds – the friends it provides, going beyond your professional and personal circles, is the real icing on the cake!!!

Getting older and overweight, I had tried many things to gain fitness but never stuck at them. In February 2015, I joined Striders at their Shivaji Park center as my wife Binaaz, persuaded me to do so. At that time I had already lost about 15 Kgs in weight and had done a couch to 7 Kms at the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon in January 2015. Between then and now in May 2018, I have completed 2 full marathons, several half marathons and hundreds of 10 Km runs.
Striders have played a pivotal role in my transformation as a recreational runner. Their training programs include a healthy combination of running mixed with strength, flexibility, agility and coordination drills. While their programs are tailored to one’s goals and capabilities, they primarily focus on the athlete remaining injury free thus ensuring that each runner is fit to toe the starting line of a long distance race. Strider coaches understand the “be“, “know“ and “do“ attributes of each runner and provide the much-needed guidance and intervention from time to time.
Striders is a group of over a 1000 runners across India. The amount of running experience within the group is perhaps the largest in the country. One draws several lessons, guidance and inspiration from experienced runner friends who are incredibly supportive and clearly want other people to enjoy running as much as they do. Through Striders, I have made lifelong friends who not only rejoice and celebrate my wins but also are empathetic and encouraging during the lows. And that camaraderie makes you go on and on, year after year. It makes you want to wake up at 4 in the morning, tie your shoelaces and hit the tar. I believe that is what keeps me fit!

Seven years ago when I joined Striders i had never thought what a life altering decision can be. Over the years not only has my fitness and endurance improved but so has the quality of life thanks to the wonderful friends I have made here. I started small, training for and running a couple of half marathons a year. After 3 years i graduated to full marathons and then to Comrades. Seven years of smooth injury free running with 3 Comrades in a row – speaks a lot about the training philosophy of Striders. Most of us join Striders to train for marathons and end up being part of the large Striders family. Striders and running is now an integral part of my life.

We follow a systematic and scientific approach to training. Any new joinee, looking for any level of training, regardless of their prior running experience goes through build-up stage, which is conducted to determine their fitness level.
